Data Recovery Services
Data Recovery companies abound, so
there is plenty of specialized help available to you. Here
is a quick checklist to help you choose
a provider:
- Reputable data
recovery companies will start with an initial evaluation,
where technicians
carefully examine the device to diagnosis the exact
nature of the problem. Expect to be told what the
problem is and the chances of recovery. Your go-ahead
should be requested at this point. Note that some
firms offer a "no data, no charge" policy.
- Skillset - Data recovery, especially
for complex set-ups can require multiple skillsets. If
you are a corporate entity with sophisticated computer
systems, look for a supplier with diverse teams including
electronic engineering, computer engineering, programmers
and systems specialists. Home users won't need quite
this diverse level of technical expertise.
- Look for evidence of evaluation and recommendation by
leading hard drive, peripheral and media manufacturers.
- Look for suppliers that feature dedicated
laboratories and clean rooms. Suppliers
often stipulate class 100 specification, which
is at the high end of labroatory standards.
- Consider how long the data recovery service
will take and the true cost of you or
your company being without that data for a period
of time. Some data recovery firms operate 24/7,
365 days a year. Expect to pay more for emergency
data recovery services. Note that some firms offer
remote data recovery services using modem or internet
connections.
